MALAYSIA MARITIME INSTITUTE (MIMA) HONOR VISIT TO JUPEM

KUNJUNGAN HORMAT INSTITUT MARITIM MALAYSIA (MIMA) KE JUPEM

The Department of Surveying and Mapping Malaysia (JUPEM) received a courtesy visit from officials from the Malaysian Maritime Institute (MIMA) on 23 November 2022 (Wednesday). The MIMA delegation was led by Ts. Egbert Adolf Naintin, Head of the Center for Ocean Law and Policy (OLAP) and two (2) research officers from the Center for Ocean Law and Policy (OLAP), Mr. Muhammad Zulhilmi Mohd Nizam and Miss Nurul 'Atiqah Rosnan.

The MIMA group was welcomed by YBrs. Sr Hazri bin Hassan, Deputy Director General of Surveying and Mapping II (TKPUP II) in the Intan Meeting Room, Floor 11, Wisma JUPEM, together with Sr Powzy bin Md Som, Deputy Director of Surveying of the Boundary Affairs Division (BEP) and Sr Hj Kamarul Azam bin Kamarul Baharin, Director of Survey Section (PUS) of the International Maritime Border (SMA), BEP and several officials from SMA, BEP, JUPEM.

This session of MIMA's courtesy visit to JUPEM, especially to BEP, is to find out about the activities at BEP especially related to maritime demarcation issues and to gain information and exposure to aspects of international maritime boundaries in accordance with the 1982 Convention on the Law of the Sea (KUUL).

The courtesy visit session started with a welcome speech by YBrs. Sr. Hazri bin Hassan, TKPUP II. Next, a briefing on JUPEM's activities and role in international maritime demarcation including the Malaysian Continental Shelf Project and technical aspects in maritime demarcation delimitation, including the base point measurement method and the maritime border delimitation method was delivered by Sr Hj Kamarul Azam bin Kamarul Baharin, PUS ( SMA) BEP.

In addition to exchanging views and sparking new ideas, this courtesy visit session is expected to strengthen the cooperative relationship between MIMA and JUPEM, especially those involving maritime demarcation and related issues.

The courtesy call session which started at 2.30pm ended at 5pm with the exchange of souvenirs and a photography session.
